UNSUNG HEROES
Each year, the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys celebrates the volunteers in our
community with at their Unsung Hero Luncheon. WomanKind is proud to recognize our
Volunteer of the Year at these events.

2010: Janis Childs
Janis Childs has been a dedicated supporter of WomanKind since our very beginning. Currently serving as Board Vice President Janis works tirelessly at fundraisers, shares her talent as an artist, and often volunteers for those projects that no one else is very eager to take on. When thanked, Janis will say, “Oh, it’s nothing.” But with Janis, it is never “nothing” – it is always something wonderful. |

2009: Eileen Kawaler
Recognizing the importance of accessible healthcare for all women, Eileen has been an ardent advocate for WomanKind. She is crucial to the growing success of WomanKind's signature Croquet Tournament. Upon learning that severe funding cuts were affecting our most vulnerable clients, Eileen rallied her contacts to help replace lost funds. Eileen’s creativity and energy is always there for us. |

2008: Nancy Bender
Nancy has volunteered tirelessly for WomanKind for several years, quietly coming into the office and accomplishing those jobs which others avoid in order to free up valuable staff time.
With her husband Bert, Nancy has frequently sponsored WomanKind programs and special events. Most recently, Nancy sat in the hot sun for eight straight hours to guard the hole-in-one at WomanKind’s SWING golf tournament. Now that’s dedication! |

2007: Doug Childs
Every organization should be lucky enough to have a volunteer like Doug Childs. As our first male volunteer, and the father of three sons, Doug proudly wears his “Well-Behaved Women Rarely Make History” T shirt around town. Doug is not only the bartender at our Croquet and Survivor Events, he participates in planning, setting up, and breaking down events too. He will even haul the trash away!
At WomanKind we hope Doug knows our gratitude, like his support, is endless. |
